Twenty Seven years ago, Annette Wright began her journey in the contracting and procurement career field. This journey has realized a high level of professional competence in federal government, and both the public and private sectors while serving in various managerial positions. During her tenure at NCR, in Peachtree City, GA., she managed the North America Purchasing Operations Branch aligned within the Worldwide Service Logistics Operation (WSL), and was directly responsible for procuring spare parts in excess of $120M. In addition to this responsibility, she served as President, National Alliance of Black NCR employees. Annette also found the energy to serve as the NCR regional Public Relations Chairperson, National Association of Purchasing Managers. Most noteworthy, Annette received from previous Atlanta Mayor Bill Campbell, his first ever presentation of the esteemed ‘Phoenix Award’ given to selected citizens recognized for extraordinary achievements. Her recognition was based on her facilitating the smooth transition and installation of 144 sorely needed operating computers to six (6) of Atlanta’s inner city schools. The NCR Global Diversity Award is also among her honors during her tenure there as well.
Her contracting career saw stints at other federal agencies as well as private endeavors to include her current position as the Contracting Officer for Region IV at the Department of Homeland Security/FEMA. At FEMA, she is responsible for managing contracts for emergency response and regional operations in excess of $350M. She oversees all contingency contracting operations supporting presidential declarations within the southeastern regions which encompass a total of eight states.
Other awards and accomplishments include; The 2000 USA Today and RIT ‘Quality Cup Award’ for process improvement; 2003 Woman of the Year Award from the Women in Technology; 2003 The United States Black and Hispanic Engineering and Technology Award; 2006 Volunteer of the Year Award from ‘The Bridge’ a Department of Juvenile Justice, Youth Detention Center, for her work with troubled young girls with severe discipline and emotional problems stemming from years of abuse, human trafficking, and/or drug and related substance addictions. Her involvement in ‘The Bridge’ helped these young girls realize a sense of self-worth by mentoring and encouraging them to be fulfilled with a purpose, and ultimately a destiny to become a contributing member of society. The Atlanta Journal Constitution featured her in an article for her community activism.
Annette holds a B.A., Business Administration from Alabama A&M University, Huntsville, AL., Master’s Degree, Acquisition & Contracts Management from American Graduate University, Covina, CA., and a Doctorate in Theology from Life Christian University, Lutz, FL. She is an author of a book titled ‘Moving from the Ordinary through the Extraordinary.’
