The Social Security Administration (SSA) recognizes that small businesses, including service disabled veteran-owned, historically underutilized business zone (HUBZone), small disadvantaged, and women-owned, are a vital part of our economy. SSA embraces a culture of shared responsibility in seeking qualified small businesses to support the mission of the agency. SSA is committed to our country’s small business community providing the maximum number of opportunities in our acquisition program as both prime contractors and subcontractors.  SSA will use policy, programs, and strategies to ensure achievement of their mission including the supplies and services offered by small businesses.

Join Vikki Hawthorne, USWCC National Director | Supplier Development and Wayne McDonald, Director, Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization at the U.S. Social Security Administration.

According to Mr. McDonald, “The mission of Social Security Administration is to deliver social security services that meet the changing needs of the public.  SSA is a small independent agency, outside of the cabinet.  We are headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland with over 60,000 employees and 1,200 field offices throughout the United States.  54 million people receive benefits from Social Security.  Of the 54 million 8.1 million are disabled workers; 4.5 million are widow/widowers; 1.9 million are children of deceased workers, and 34.3 million are retired workers.  The federal budget of the social security is equivalent to the spending on national defense.

Social security services are offered to 70 million citizens online.  In FY 2015 we served 41 million visitors and handled 21 million calls in our field offices.  A record 8.9 million workers are collecting disability benefits.  Disbursements accounted for $75 billion in benefits each month to the national economy.

The website for the Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization is http://www.ssa.gov/agency/osdbu.  On the website we offer the FY 2016 contract forecast, a subcontractor directory and a link to the vendor repository.  The vendor repository is an internal SharePoint site housing vendor capability statements.  Companies interested in marketing directly to Social Security should send the capability statement to vendorrepository@ssa.gov.

We have increased dollars spent on WOSB concerns the last six years.

FY 2011                6%          $83 million (increase of $27 million over FY 2010)

FY 2012                10%       $163 million

FY 2013                12%       $172 million

FY 2014                10%       $178 million

FY 2015                12%       $215 million “
